Summary. An archaeological evaluation (thirty-six trial-trenches) was carried out on land south of Frinton Road, Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex, in advance of an application to construct forty-nine new dwellings. Residual artefacts of Iron Age, Roman and medieval date were recovered during the excavations, including a medieval floor-tile which indicates the presence of a high-status medieval structure in the vicinity. The primary phase of activity at the site extended through the post-medieval and modern periods, when it formed part of a field adjoining Thorpe Hall.
