Summary.
Archaeological monitoring and recording were carried out in Lower Castle Park to the north-north-west of Colchester Castle in Essex (a Scheduled Monument) during the installation of an interpretation panel near to some WW2 anti-tank blocks beside the River Colne. The site is in an area of the highest archaeological importance, being located close to the surviving Norman castle keep and the site of the Roman temple of Claudius. No archaeological remains were encountered as groundworks did not penetrate beyond the modern layers.
