Summary. Archaeological monitoring and recording were carried out at 1 St Clare Road, Colchester, Essex in advance of the construction of side and rear extensions. The development site is located close to the Lexden Tumulus (Scheduled Monument, NHLE no 1019967) and on the northern edge of the site of the Roman 'Lexden cemetery'. Four features were identified, consisting of two early Roman pits, a post-medieval pit and a modern pit.
