Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 50 Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, Essex during groundworks associated with the conversion of the building to a hotel and bar. The oldest part of the building likely dates to the 17th century with later extensions. Archaeological investigations on the site in 1999 had also previously identified Roman, medieval and post-medieval features. Monitoring revealed six Roman pits of which two were late Roman, a post-medieval brick-lined well, and a 19th century pit.
