Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the construction of new play equipment at Pleshey Golden Jubilee Playground, Pleshey, Essex. The village of Pleshey is enclosed by a bank and ditch system, originating from the construction of a motte and bailey castle in the 12th century. Due to this, Pleshey is a scheduled ancient monument. The foundations/floor of a 19th-20th-century building were revealed, likely relating to the nearby smithy.
