Summary. Observation of groundworks for a single-storey rear extension were undertaken as the property is located within the Roman town of Colchester and backs onto the Roman town wall, a scheduled monument. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during monitoring, although a substantial service trench had been cut across the site.
