Summary.
An archaeological evaluation (one trial-trench) was carried out at the Sixth Form College, North Hill, Colchester, Essex as part of a pre-planning investigation in advance of the construction of a new teaching block. The development site is located within an archaeologically sensitive area within the north-west corner of the Roman walled town. Although subject to some truncation by modern service runs, well-preserved Roman stratigraphy was encountered during the evaluation. This included Roman demolition horizons and structural remains consisting of mortar floors and clay-block walls which in plan suggest an internal corridor within a large 2nd century building.
