Summary. An archaeological evaluation (three trial-trenches) was undertaken on a parcel of land to the east of Albert Street and south of Margaret Road, Colchester, Essex in advance of the construction of nine new dwellings. Two shallow Roman ditches and a modern service were identified in the trenches. Both of the Roman ditches contained fragments of ceramic building material, with one ditch producing a single sherd of Late Iron Age pottery and the other a single sherd of Roman pottery.
