Summary. An archaeological evaluation (five trial-trenches) was carried out on land off Spellbrook Lane, West Spellbrook, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire in advance of the construction of two new dwellings with associated garages, landscaping, and associated groundworks. The site lies partially within Area of Archaeological Significance No. 162, which defines the extent of the medieval core of Spellbrook. A number of features dating from the 11th to the 13th century were uncovered within this area, and yielded evidence suggesting domestic activity in the vicinity. A post-medieval posthole, a modern pit or posthole and an undated pit were also excavated.
