Summary. Archaeological monitoring was due to be carried out at West End Garage, High Street, Dedham, Essex, during the demolition of the building and its associated infrastructure. During the removal of several petrol tanks, fuel lines and vent pipes, and the demolition of the garage, it was found that the site was heavily contaminated and required remediation which precluded archaeological investigation. It was unclear whether there were any archaeological remains at the site, but the level of disturbance associated with the garage suggests it is likely that they would have been heavily truncated.
