Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 273 Straight Road, Colchester, Essex, during groundworks for a rear extension and a detached gym/hobby room at the end of the garden. The site lies immediately to the south of the projected course of Kidman's Dyke North, part of a system of defensive dykes which defined the Iron Age oppidum of Camulodunum. Despite being located in an archaeologically-sensitive area, the only remains uncovered by the groundworks were four modern pits and three modern tree-throws.
