Summary. An archaeological evaluation of six trial-trenches was carried out at Forres, Clacton Road, Elmstead Market, Essex in advance of the construction of eight new dwellings. Four medieval/post-medieval ditches and three undated ditches were uncovered, two of which corresponded with a cropmark which passes through the centre of the site. These appear to form part of a medieval or post-medieval agricultural landscape. Two modern gullies were also recorded.
