Summary. An archaeological evaluation (one trial-trench) was undertaken at 5 Yorick Road, West Mersea, Colchester, Essex in advance of the construction of a three bedroom detached bungalow. The site is located in an area of known Roman settlement and of medieval archaeological deposits associated with the nearby church. A ditch containing a small quantity of Bronze Age pottery was excavated, suggesting that a site of Bronze Age settlement is located in the vicinity. A Roman or post-Roman ditch, a modern pit and an undatable ditch and gully were also recorded.
