Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 47 Irvine Road, Colchester, Essex, during groundworks for a detached single-storey room at the far end of the garden. A postmedieval ditch aligned north to south was excavated and appears to be part of a field boundary ditch seen on early OS maps.
