Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at A Ground Cricket Pitch, Colchester during groundworks for a new artificial cricket wicket. Extensive archaeological investigations conducted in the area around the site over the past two decades have revealed nationally-significant archaeological remains, most notably the only known Roman circus in Britain. Despite being located in an archaeologically-sensitive area, however, no significant archaeological remains were encountered as groundworks did not penetrate beyond modern layers.
