Summary.
Archaeological monitoring was carried out at B Ground and Abbey Field, Colchester during the excavation of postholes for a new gate and fencing, the removal of artificial turf from a hockey pitch and the removal of three hammer-throwing circles. Extensive archaeological investigations conducted in the area around the site over the past two decades have revealed nationally-significant archaeological remains, most notably the only known Roman circus in Britain. Despite being located in an archaeologically-sensitive area, however, no archaeological remains were encountered.
