Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 40 Churchfields, West Mersea, Colchester Essex during groundworks for a rear and side extension and a garage. The site lies within a known area of Roman occupation and medieval remains associated with the nearby church of St Peter and St Paul and site of a medieval priory. Despite being located in an archaeologically-sensitive area, no significant archaeological remains were encountered.
