Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at Willowdene, 39 Oaks Drive, in advance of the construction of a single-storey rear extension, a first-floor extension above the existing garage, and associated groundworks. The development site is located in the midst of a number of archaeologically-significant sites, particularly the Iron Age and Roman industrial complex of Sheepen and the area of Roman cemeteries known as the ‘Lexden Cemetery’. While no archaeological features were encountered, a significant amount of Roman pottery, bricks, and tiles were retrieved, the latter of which do not appear to be related to Roman kilns previously uncovered in the vicinity of site, but which might instead indicate the presence of a Roman brick kiln.
