Summary. An archaeological evaluation of eighteen trial-trenches was carried out on land adjacent to Tye Road, Elmstead Market, Essex in advance of the construction of a new housing development. Although located to the north and east of a number of cropmark complexes, and to the north of a Roman road leading to Colchester, the only features present were a tree-throw and natural silt patch.
