Summary.
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at Sir Isaac's Walk, Colchester, Essex during groundworks for a trial post-hole and final post-hole for the installation
of a new interpretation panel. Located at Headgate, near the site of the south-west gate of the Roman town, the trial post-hole measured 440mm by 280mm and was 510mm deep. The final post-hole was actually dug 30m further to the east: it measured 450mm by 350mm and was 800mm deep. Both post-holes were excavated through modern paving laid on a sandy concrete, onto a layer of modern silty-loam. There was a layer of oyster shell at the base of the final post-hole.
