Summary.
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at 112 Maldon Road, Colchester, Essex in advance of the construction of a rear extension. The development site is located within an area of archaeological significance which includes Roman burials. A significant depth of modern layers was identified (approximately 0.53-1.6m thick), underneath which was a layer of demolition material containing crushed brick/tile and mortar. It is uncertain if this layer is of a Roman date.
