Summary.
An evaluation by one trench on a site in Maldon's historic core revealed a medieval pit and four post-medieval/modern pits. The medieval pit indicates an earlier origin for the site now occupied by the 15th-/16th-century public house, and the later pits are probably associated with the dumping of domestic waste to the rear of the property.
