Summary.
The site is located within the Roman western cemetery area, to the west of the walled town. A Roman burial recorded here in 1951 cosiste of five vessels, one of which contained cremated human remains.
Observations were made during the excavation of foundation trenches, drainage runs and a soakaway. Foundation trenches were excavated to a formation depth of 1.4m into natural geological horizon.
No archaeological features or material were observed, and there were no finds other than modern brick fragments in the topsoil (not retained). The lack of finds is probably because the site is located away from the cemetery focus, to the north.
