Summary. The site lies to the eastern side of the late Iron Age and early Roman industrial centre at Sheepen (Essex Scheduled Ancient Monument or SAM no 46). Two 10m x 1.5m evaluation trenches were dug by machine in advance of a proposed college extension, revealing pits and deposits which appear to be associated with the main period of activity at Sheepen, ie c AD 5-60.
