Summary.
Trenches for new external drains at the eastern end of the church were inspected on 21st August 2000. At the time of inspection the 300mm wide trenches were open to depths of between 100mm, no significant features were observed. Shallow trenches had been dug against the side of the church at the three locations, points “A” and “C” contained c.19th century brick drains, point “B” was obscured by rendering. One large fragment of Roman brick was noted among peg-tile in the spoil heap next to the junction “D”.
